Who Are The Muffinz
The group was formed in 2010 when Mthae, Simz and Atomza met while singing at the University of Johannesburg choir. Their big break came when they won a competition at Cool Runnings in Melville. Their performance was so powerful that it made one of the judges cry. “We realised that day that we could do this,” says Atomza. The following year Skabz and Keke joined the band. Since then they got signed to a record label; released two albums Have you Heard? and Do What You Love; picked up four South African Music Award nominations as well as respect from many fans across the country who enjoy their fusion of sound.
Sounds of Soweto
Sounds of Soweto which occurs on the last Friday of the month, is an opportunity to celebrate music legends of yesterday while also discovering the musical voices of tomorrow that will be born of this historic township. The platform showcases bands that either come from Soweto or have a close relationship with Soweto in terms of their musical journey. For this event series, Soweto Theatre has partnered with His and Hers Jams – a multimedia platform that focuses on artists that have been overlooked by the mainstream media but have a huge support in the alternative youth culture space.
Sounds of Soweto forms part of a partnership with the J&B Hive Johannesburg, a community of creative entrepreneurs and game changers within the city. The J&B Hive is a rare catalyst for Johannesburg-based entrepreneurs with close to 50 active members from various disciplines. Sounds of Soweto were among the region’s business minds that were selected to join the ever-growing community. Follow the stories, successes, and progress of the community at #MyJandBhivejourney. J&B Whisky, the brand, has a deep history in entrepreneurship and the J&B Hive is a modern day articulation of these roots.
About His and Hers Jams

These three Soweto natives are dedicated to preserving arts in their community, and to provide a platform for musicians by hosting monthly shows, putting live music under the spotlight every last Sunday of each month.
