SA’s most influential wine show of the year, the RMB WineX, sponsored by Private Investment Bank RMB, was hosted for the 17th consecutive year and this year it took place at the prestigious Sandton Convention Centre.

Last year alone the RMB WineX saw more than 12 000 guests coming through the doors and R 3.6 million in wine sales in less than 12 hours on the opening night. With over a 130 of South Africa’s top wine farms to choose from, guests were spoilt for choice! Guests received their tasting glass at the door and they could enjoy a tasting of each wine that was on display at the exhibitor’s tables. The variety was endless from cultivar, organic – and boutique wines as well as some international wines. Each wine farm also gave consumers the opportunity to purchase wines directly through Shop@Show and Norman Goodfellows, saving wine-lovers a fortune. They even deliver the wines to your door! A toast then to what we call great service!

And of course no wine show is complete without the expert of their field.

“Michael Fridjhon is South Africa’s most highly regarded international wine judge, the country’s most widely consulted liquor industry authority, and one of South Africa’s leading wine writers. Chairman of the Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show since its inception, he has judged in countless wine competitions around the world. Visiting Professor of Wine Business at the University of Cape Town, he has been an advisor to the Minister of Agriculture and is a recipient of the French Chevalier de l’Ordre du Mérite Agricole. Worldwide winner of the Louis Roederer International Wine Columnist of the Year award in 2012, he is the author, co-author or contributor to over 30 books and is a regular contributor to wine publications in the UK, France, Germany and China. He is the founder of Wine Wizard a site which specialises in scoring South African wine and guiding consumers to excellent value for money and quality.” – Dailymaverick.

Michael Fridjhon not only helps you choose the perfect wine on Wine Wizard but also had his Top 10 listed in the following numerically ascending order: 2012 Delheim Edelspatz, 2011 Mullineux Family Wines Straw Wine, 2011 Paul Cluver Noble Late Harvest, 2013 Paul Cluver Riesling Noble Late Harvest, 2012 Paul Cluver Riesling Noble Late Harvest, 2011 Perdeberg Winery Weisser Riesling Natural Sweet, 2007 Nederburg Edelkeur White, 2011 Fleur du Cap NLH, 2012 Nederburg Winemaster’s Reserve Noble Late Harvest, 2011 Mullineux Family Wines Straw Wine, 2009 Vondeling Sweet Carolyn.

We were rather impressed on how well this event was organised including how thoughtful the organisers were by not only paying Rotary for their logistical support at the show, but that there are also additional funds from the sale of the exhibitors wines that will be going towards Rotary International.

WineX organisers also raised funds for the Pebbles Project via the coin-operated breathalysers at the show. This way show guests were able to check their blood alcohol levels before driving home ensuring they reach their destinations safely. For those who might have enjoyed a bit too much, patrons were encouraged to make use of cab services which were available at the venue.

Ticketstroom will continue to attend such expos. Whether it’s wine, food or whiskey you can count on finding us there. For all updates and news regarding all things events – follow us via our social media handles on Facebook and Twitter.
