If you are a sport and fitness enthusiast, this one is for you! Sun International together with ELEVEN Global and main sponsor Helly Hansen, the world’s leading all-weather sportswear brand, celebrated a decade of hosting the toughest triathlons in the whole of Africa this past weekend at the exhilarating Sun City Resort.
This event did not only push every athlete to their limits, but kept the massive supporting crowd consisting of moms, dads, grandparents, school friends and coaches, in suspense. The finalist came charging up the hill pushing harder than ever for the finish line and perhaps to beat their best score yet. This gruelling course was a combination of a 750m swim through the ice cold Sun City Lake, which was followed by a bike ride. The bike ride consisted of inclines and traitorous hills and finishing off the race was a 5km run back towards the Cabanas where the race started.
To make this event even more interesting were not just the adults allowed to enter, but kids from the ages of 6 as well. The three different age groups all had different distances to complete, however, the 6-9 year olds group had to dig deep with a 50m swim, a 1.5km bike ride and lastly the 1km run to the finish line. Needless to say the crowd were cheering on the little ones as they were entering the final stage of the race. Some dads found themselves running along with their children for the moral support and guidance whilst pictures were being taken for that epic Facebook post mom would do later on that day!
You would wonder though, as to how hard one really had to train throughout the year to compete in a race such as this one! No wonder some athletes make use of professional trainers.
For those who were dragged along and preferred the more comfortable things in life, including shopping off course, there were a few show stands throughout the day by major brands including Helly Hansen, Adidas, 32Gi, Exercise Solutions, Tribe and Suunto just to name a few. Sun International also had a stand where one could enquire about their timeshare options… ready to plan your December holiday at Sun City Resort?
Congratulations to everyone that entered, and especially to the winners. Hard work always pays off.
