Our townships have been taken by storm with a new phenomenon of food markets. These are the places where South African business people in the culinary space, set pop up stalls showcasing some rather interesting meals – different from the ones we have been accustomed to. Ticketstroom headed to Tembisa for the second instalment of The Easy Saturday Street Food Market.

The Easy Saturday Street Food Market is a monthly event that takes place on the first Saturday of the month. The venue is Kgatlamping Primary School, which the organisers are very involved with, as they sell their branded badges to raise funds for the school. So not only does the Easy Saturday Street Food Market help uplift local businesses, it also gives back to the community.

One thing that stood out at the food market, was the variety more than anything. From pizzas prepared in a hand made mobile pizza oven, to buffalo wings, gourmet burgers and even “gourmet kotas”. The market offered us all of these delicacies at one central venue.

We tried out a gourmet burger served with potato wedges from Hoodratch Munchies and to go down with it, we had a slush cocktail. Where the slush puppy is prepared as a cocktail. These are just some of the exciting and innovative meals one gets to try out at the market.

The Street Food Market accommodates the whole family as it also provides a kiddies area where parents can leave their kids in “safe hands” whilst they go indulge in all these amazing food ideas. In the background of this amazing set up is the music to go with it as the DJs dropped some nice mellow jams.

The Ticketstroom blog team really enjoyed this experience and encourages their followers in and around Tembisa to check out The Easy Saturday Street Food Market. Entrance is free, which means you can spend more money on the food. For other food markets and events of this nature to try out, keep following us on Facebook and Twitter.
