This past Saturday we were out at the Zoo Lake, for the most exciting sports tournament that we have been to yet. The Ball Up 3 on 3 contest bought together not only basketball fans but lovers of great music and a good turn up, making the day even bigger and better. The event included an exciting 3 on 3 game with numerous teams, and a slam-dunk contest while Dj’s and artists kept the spectators entertained throughout the day.
Now you probably wondering what a “3 on 3” is game and how is it played, right? 3 on 3 has been a basketball format long played in streets and gyms across the world, although in a less formal way. The form of the game is played three a side on one hoop. Therefore, each team consists of three players and one substitute and is played on a half-court, with one basket.
Starting off the contest was Team Rothanda vs the Westridge on court A. On the other half of the court was Stone field and V&J – a team of women that were a testimony of how females can also play a man dominated sports.
Throughout the day numerous rounds were held with each team having a chance to showcase their skills, endurance, teamwork and their ability to own the court while playing hard to accumulate the most points possible.
Other teams that were playing in the other rounds were, Sugar boys, La- ballatory, Red Hot, Flames and many more teams who battled and fought for wins.
Organised by Juice Ndlovu and Chris Kazadi, this event was the 3rd of its kind, with the previous two tournaments held last year. Like with all events, these two organisers did not work alone. “We have partnered with Adidas, which has been our biggest sponsor. Today we are also working with Score energy drink and Pristine,” said Juice.
Juice also mentioned that the event is growing with every tournament held, in fact they are intending on hosting two more- one at the end of March and the other at the end of May. Observing the game, the entertainment and the magnitude of the event as a whole, we too, were not surprised at the next two events that are scheduled to come up soon.
Making an appearance on the day was Priddy Ugly, Stilo Magolide, Switch, Raz and many other celebrities.
A highlight of the game was the Slam-dunk contest, which got people on their feet- cheering on the best of the best. Kinging this contest was Brian, who amazed the audience and won himself a trophy.
Ticketstroom will be at the next Ball Up 3 on 3 event, capturing the best moments on the courts, mingling with the participants and audiences while enjoying the entertainment and music. Checkout our Facebook, twitter and website for more events of this kind, and more.
