Nickfest is a music festival divided into a morning and afternoon session, the family friendly festival was held on the 25th and 26th of March 2017 at The Dome, Johannesburg. Nickfest is a combination of music, cartoon character appearances and singalong festival that dedicates itself to entertain the entire family and putting the kids at heart. The stage was graced and entertained throughout with the three enthusiastic MCs, Minnie Dlamini, Jason Goliath and Donovan Goliath.
The kids switched up when Nasty C walked on stage with his dancing crew to perform Switch Up. The “Hell Naw” hitmaker ensured that the kids were entertained and he revealed that, apart from music he has some dance moves up his sleeves. The second headliner was pop artist Shekhinah, she gave a lovely perform for the kids inclusive of her hits, Back To The Beach and Let You Know. Afrikaans pop artist, Karlien van Jaarsveld rounded off the day’s performances and had the crowd jumping to her tune.
This year’s festival had character appearances from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Dora the Explorer with her friends and Paw Patrol. The Teenage Mutant mesmerised the crowd with a live action show. The kids were wowed to see the show turning from a singalong into a fight performance where the Ninja Turtles fought to protect April O’Neil from the bad guy, Shredder. SpongeBob SquarePants also made a character appearance and proved to be a crowd favourite.
SpongeBob was more concerned with releasing the green gooey slime button which was gushed onto celebrity guests: Alex Caige, LootLove, Anele Mdoda and Rozanne McKenzie. The celebrity slime challenge helped to raise funds during the festival; the Nickfest host Nicholas Goliath also got slimmed. Not only did the slime fest end there, the kids had their own designated area where they had fun sliming each other.
The kids had more games to choose from with the likes of go-carting, slime fest, golf and many more. They were also offered a chance to win hampers if they answered the Nickelodeon questions correctly about their favourite characters who appeared during the show. One of the major prizes to be won were two Samsung tablets, kids were required to fill in their names and a lucky winner would be selected randomly. Kids were given stickers with a 10 days’ free access on Show Max to any nickelodeon and many programs they wish to watch.
It is not a complete festival without food and beverages, there were many stalls to choose from. One of the phenomenal and exciting part for the kids was winning the prizes. Prepare yourself and kids for next amazing Nickelodeon festival, go and enjoy as much as possible as a family.
